Job Description

Mō te tūnga | About the role

It is an exciting time to join the policy team at TRC. The team is responsible for the analysis and review of existing policies, regulations and legislation and developing proposals for new policy initiatives. This varied and interesting role has a particular focus on resource management policy, and you will be part of a passionate team tasked with writing a new Land and Freshwater Plan, and updates to the Regional Policy Statement, for the region. You will provide policy advice to the Council, undertake engagement with iwi and the Taranaki community and contribute to the development of provisions in the plan. You will thrive in an intellectually rigorous, pragmatic and fun team environment and enjoy a mix of meeting tight deadlines and projects with longer timeframes.

Desired Skills and Experience

Mōu | About you

The Taranaki Regional Council is a busy environment where you will enjoy using your knowledge of policy gleaned from your tertiary studies and/or relevant policy experience to provide advice on the Council’s statutory responsibilities and assess and develop resource management policy. 

You will need to be versatile, resourceful and have exceptional interpersonal and organisational skills. Superior written and oral communication skills, including strong report writing ability are essential. An understanding of environmental science and the ability to incorporate this knowledge into the policy and planning process will be an advantage. 

A tertiary qualification is a must and one relevant to policy and planning would be ideal. 

We like to set people up for success so you’ll be a leading applicant if you have: 

  • Ability to be flexible and agile in your practice to deliver best outcomes 

  • Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail 

  • Ability to manage multiple jobs 

  • Knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991, and consent or plan development processes 

  • An understanding of and respect for te ao Māori, te reo and tikanga 

  • Demonstrable experience as a senior policy analyst or policy analyst (or in a similar role), particularly with experience in freshwater management

The starting remuneration range for this role is $94,590 - $111,282 per annum (including KiwiSaver).
